Two wins in September have the Vicksburg Gators feeling giddy. The question now, can they sustain it?
An answer will come Friday at Hughes Field in Jackson when the Gators (2-2) open Region 2-6A play against the Jim Hill Tigers (1-3).
Gators coach Alonzo Stevens said his team must set aside last week’s 37-14 romp over Lawrence County and rise up to handle a team they should beat.
“We’ve made strides to get better and we’re coming off the most complete game we’ve had in three years,” Stevens said. “Now, do we have the confidence to keep going? We haven’t played any slouchy teams. All four of the teams we’ve played so far went to the playoffs last year.”
Jim Hill has not had much success, going 1-10 last year. They do have one of the state’s best receiving prospects, Mississippi State commit Fred Brown.
“He has great hands and runs great routes,” Stevens said of Brown.
