Woman’s body found in river

The body of a woman was pulled from the Mississippi River at about 10 this morning, minutes after a passer-by on the Interstate 20 bridge reported a woman walking on the span.

The body had not been identified, and Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said he could not confirm that the woman reported on the bridge was who was found in the river.

“I cannot connect the two,” he said after the body was taken by a sheriff’s department boat from near Baxter Wilson Steam Electric Plant north to Ergon Marine’s dock near DiamondJack’s Casino.

The woman appeared to be white and in her mid-40s.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey, Ergon, the sheriff, deputies and officers with the Vicksburg police and fire departments were on the scene.

A call was made to E-911 that a body had been seen in the water near Kemp Bottom Road. It was not clear who had spotted the body.

The body was spotted by Ergon workers near the power plant, about 2.6 miles south of the Mississippi River bridges.
