Corps employees honored by Hispanics

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers employees Dr. Guillermo A. Riveros and Mariely Mejias-Santiago were honored by the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Corp. at the organization’s 23rd annual conference in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., this month.
Riveros received the 2011 Civil Engineering Distinction Award while Mejias-Santiago was a Luminary Honoree for 2011. Riveros and Mejias-Santiago are researchers with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg.
Riveros specializes in lock and dam infrastructure modeling at ERDC’s Information Technology Laboratory. He has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez, a master’s degree in engineering mechanics from Mississippi State University, and a doctorate in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia, Mo. He was hired at ERDC as a civil engineer in 1992.
Mejias-Santiago is a research civil engineer with the Airfields and Pavements Branch of the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory. She has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez. She attended the ERDC summer internship program during 2006, and was hired at ERDC in 2008.
