A homeless shelter proposed at the vacant Marian Hill chemical dependency center at the former ParkView Regional Medical Center is the topic of a community meeting at Anshe Chesed Temple on Tuesday.
Anyone interested in the topic may attend the session, set for 7 p.m. in the temple’s community room, said David Gibson of the Wildwood Homeowners Association, which is organizing opposition to the plan for the homeless center.
On Dec. 6, Mountain of Faith Ministries will ask the Vicksburg Board of Zoning Appeals for a special exception for the old hospital’s CBR-4 zoning designation to renovate the former drug treatment center into temporary quarters for up to 25 people to live 24 months at a time. The zoning meeting begins at 5 p.m. at City Hall Annex.
In May, the zoning board had approved a similar exception for the group to do the same at 1529 Walnut St.
Treatment programs moved from Marian Hill to River Region West in 2009.
