Morning gas smell blamed on odorant

Published 11:43 am Monday, December 5, 2011

A tanker truck carrying the odorant for natural gas lines was believed to be the cause of reports of a natural gas leak in an area from Halls Ferry Road east on Interstate 20 to Bovina this morning, Vicksburg gas plant superintendent James Beamon said.

“It sounds like a truck leaking the odorant, because of the size of the area where the smell was reported,” Beamon said. He said no gas line leaks were reported.

Dispatchers reported receiving calls reporting the smell of gas on Halls Ferry and I-20 about 9:45, and authorities were looking for the leaking truck.
