A strong-arm robbery in the Ameristar Casino parking lot, 4116 Washington St., was reported at 6 p.m. Sunday, police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

A woman told police that as she was getting into her car, a man approached and asked her for a cigarette. When she told him she did not have one, he grabbed her purse, Stewart said. They struggled with the purse before he snatched it away and ran north through the parking lot.

The purse, valued at $50, contained about $260 and an AT&T cell phone valued at $100, Stewart said.

The woman was not injured, he said.
