Oklahoma, Texas are pageant victors

Miss Oklahoma Betty Thompson and Miss Texas Kendall Morris were the winners in the second round of preliminary competition at the Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas.

Thompson won the talent portion of the competition for her Irish Step Dance performance to “Warriors,” and Morris was the lifestyle and fitness winner. Each preliminary talent winner receives a $2,000 scholarship, and lifestyle and fitness winners receive $1,000 scholarships.

Tuesday night’s preliminary talent winner was Miss Wisconsin Laura Kaeppeler, who performed an operatic vocal performance of “Il Bacio,” and the lifestyle and fitness winner was Miss Utah Danica Olsen.

Miss America 2012 will be crowned Saturday in a competition aired on ABC’s WAPT in Jackson.

Miss Mississippi Mary Margaret Roark, who was crowned at the end of the state pageant in Vicksburg in July, competed in the swimsuit and evening wear Wednesday night and will perform her talent tonight.
