Dora Skinner Norwood

Dora Skinner Norwood, 86, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at a Mobile, Ala., hospital. She was preceded in death by parents, Pete and Allene Skinner and husband, Luke Thomas Norwood Sr.

Dora was a 1945 graduate of Culkin Academy. She worked for many years for Bell Telephone Company and later retired from Singer Company. After retirement, she worked for The Valley and Vicksburg Cleaners. She was a former member of Bovina Baptist Church and was a member of Dayspring Baptist Church in Mobile.

Dora is survived by son, Luke Thomas (Tammie) Norwood Jr. of Vicksburg and daughter, Krista Norwood (Jim) Womack of Mobile. She also is survived by four grandchildren, Amanda Womack, Daniel Norwood, Mark (Samantha) Norwood and Deborah (James) Lang; and great-grandchildren, Mark Norwood Jr. and Arianna Norwood. She is survived by sisters, Myrtle Garner of Brandon, Ella Mae McCaskill of Vicksburg, Frances Warner of Prairieville, La., Mary Farley Hazzlerigg of Mobile, Alice Foote of Hollister, Mass., and Freda Martin of Satartia.

She was a native of Vicksburg and resided at Sacred Heart Residence in Mobile. The family would like to thank the staff of Sacred Heart Residence, Little Sisters of the Poor, for the loving care provided to Dora during her time at the residence. They would also like to thank the staff and nurses of the Providence Hospital ICU for the compassionate and loving care she received during her stay.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials made to Sacred Heart Residence, Little Sisters of the Poor at 1655 McGill Ave., Mobile, AL 36604. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, Feb. 18, at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and the funeral service following immediately. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
