More than 130 school-aged girls had babies in Warren County in 2010, the latest year for which statistics are available.
For some of the 130 14- to 18-year-olds, it was their second pregnancy, and in the 131st case, the mother was between the ages of 10 and 13, said a longtime Vicksburg Warren School District educator.
“That’s about six classrooms full of children that will be in kindergarten in a few years,” said Sherrie Williams, a former teacher who has directed implementation of a multimillion-dollar Safe Schools-Healthy Students grant the district was awarded in 2009.
