An Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt shop could open by June 1 in the Halls Ferry Station retail area behind Walgreens if the new strip mall is completed by then, a company official said Friday.
The Oklahoma City-based frozen dessert chain should make the date “dependent on the construction process,” said director of public relations Meredith Lynn.
Orange Leaf, founded in 2008, offers build-your-own frozen yogurt desserts to customers, who pay by the ounce after the dessert is weighed. The company offers 66 flavors, from basic blueberry to tart pomegranate, and toppings such as sprinkles and pecans.
Mississippi Medicaid began a move into one of the strip center’s two buildings this week, and A.G. Helton, owner of the property’s Yazoo City-based owner, Action Properties LLC, said this week the first building should be “move-in ready” by June 15.
Of 147 Orange Leaf shops nationwide, one is in Mississippi, on U.S. 51 in Madison. Stores also are on the way in D’Iberville, Hattiesburg and Southaven, according to the company’s website.
Action Properties purchased the strip center in May 2011, becoming the property’s fourth owner since construction began by Ergon Properties in 2003. Halls Ferry Elementary had stood on the site until it was demolished a year earlier.
