The Mississippi Braves finished off a rough month with another tough loss.
The Huntsville Stars scored three runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth, and beat the M-Braves 7-3 Sunday for their fourth straight win in the five-game series.
The loss dropped Mississippi’s record to 9-16, and it’s in last place in the Southern League’s South Division. The M-Braves are off today, then begin a series at Mobile on Tuesday night.
Huntsville improved to 14-11, and is tied with Birmingham for second place in the North Division.
After Huntsville took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning Sunday, the M-Braves tied it with three runs in the bottom half. Adam Milligan hit a two-run homer and Todd Cunningham brought in the tying run with an RBI double.
Huntsville responded with its outburst in the fifth inning, however, and never trailed again. Hunter Morris broke the tie with an RBI double to the wall in center field, and later scored on a double by Khris Davis.
Anderson De La Rosa belted a two-run homer to make it 7-3 and cap the rally.
Morris finished the game 2-for-5 with a double, homer and three RBIs. Andy Gonzales went 3-for-5 and scored twice, and De La Rosa was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
Roque Mercedes (1-0) pitched two innings of scoreless relief to get the victory. He was the second of four pitchers used by Huntsville.
Andrelton Simmons went 4-for-4 for the M-Braves, and Milligan had two hits.
Starter Gary Moran took the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits in 41⁄3 innings.
