Marie Heard Haley

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Marie Heard Haley, 91, a resident of Bridgewater, Va., passed away Monday, May 14, 2012. Mrs. Haley was born Nov. 3, 1920, in Utica to the late Talmage Homer and Mary Smith Heard.

She graduated from Utica High School and Hinds Junior College and went to Bowling Green Business College in Kentucky. On Sept. 7, 1945, she married Samuel David Haley, who passed away in 1997.

Marie and her husband resided in Fairfax County, Va., for many years where they raised a family and she was employed as a secretary with the Fairfax County Public Schools Head Start Program. Together, they relocated to Luray, Va., where they enjoyed many years of retirement. She was a member of the Page Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Luray United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed her time spent with her Egypt Bend Ladies Group.

Surviving are her two sons, David T. Haley and Dr. James A. Haley and wife, Sue, all of Harrisonburg, Va.; six grandchildren, Kaja Hiscox, Kenny Nawrocki, Kip Nawrocki, Rachel Haley, David Haley and Christopher Haley; three great-grandchildren, Briana Hiscox, Colin Hiscox and Elizabeth Haley; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Nawrocki; a brother, Talmage Heard Jr.; and a sister, Fay H. Clayton.

Graveside services will be held at noon Friday, May 18, 2012, at Culpeper National Cemetery in Culpeper, Va.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pastoral Care Endowment Fund at the Bridgewater Health Care Foundation, 302 N. Second St., Bridgewater, VA 22812-1708.

Arrangements are being handled by Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
