A former Vicksburg resident was killed after being hit by a woman suspected of drinking and driving early Saturday on Interstate 20 in South Carolina.

Jerry James Daigle, 53, of Jefferson, Ga., died after the wreck involving Lacie Doolittle, 21, of Wagener, S.C., who is charged with felony driving under the influence, said South Carolina State Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Brent Kelly.

Daigle had been living in Jefferson with a relative for more than a year, Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said.

Daigle died of severe head trauma at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, Carlton said.

Doolittle lost control of her Honda about 4:15 a.m. Saturday and overcorrected while trying to get back on to the road, Kelly said. Her vehicle rear-ended Daigle’s truck, which was disabled on I-20 west about 12 miles from the Georgia state line, Kelly said. Daigle was standing in front of the truck, which struck him, Kelly said.

Doolittle and her 30-year-old passenger were also taken to Medical College of Georgia.
