Museum disappointing

I am disappointed in the new railroad museum.

In December 2006, I retired and moved back to my old hometown of Crystal Springs. Shortly after that I saw the news about renovating the old train depot in Vicksburg for a museum.

I have forgotten the man’s name who was backing this program, but I contacted him about an old railroad manual track-switcher that I had and would be willing to bring it over for display in the museum. This I did. With the gentleman, myself and my wife, we got this item of several hundred pounds unloaded from my truck and into the building. All along I was led to believe that this was to be a museum dedicated to the railroad history of Vicksburg. As it turns out it is another Civil War Museum which I think Vicksburg has enough of already.

We attended the grand opening last Sunday and I have no idea where my track-switcher is. It was nowhere to be seen at the museum.

Had I known this old train depot was going to be a display of boat and ship models, Civil War battle dioramas and model cars, I would have taken my track-switcher to either Brookhaven or McComb where they have railroad museums.

I realize there is still work to be done on the old depot, hopefully they may think about putting more railroad history on display.
