(NewsUSA) – Last summer, the small town of Minot, N.D., was severely damaged by a record-breaking flood. As Minot’s 40,000 residents struggled to put their lives back together, many found solace in trying to rebuild their beloved Oak Park.

Oak Park anchored the community and provided a place for friends, families and neighbors to be active and enjoy the outdoors together. Every summer, the park was the setting for concerts, a farmers market and more. The sense of loss was profound among residents, mourning memories in the park washed away by the flood.

So, last summer when Coca-Cola launched the “America Is Your Park” campaign, park lovers in Minot seized the opportunity to rally behind Oak Park. Park supporters from around the country cast more than 13 million votes for their favorite parks during the campaign. No one could have imagined that this small park would beat out thousands of others to become “America’s Favorite Park” and take home a $100,000 recreation grant.

But that’s exactly what happened!

Do you want to know the secret to their success? The entire community got involved! Park lovers held events in the park, mobilized online, engaged hometown celebrities and voted non-stop. Their efforts not only captured the attention of local news media and dignitaries, but an A-list Hollywood celebrity from Minot got involved.
