Betty Steen Gillis died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, at Promise Specialty in Vicksburg. She was 83.

Mrs. Gillis worked for the Vicksburg Warren School District for 22 years before retiring. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Plez Steen; her mother, Cleo Stifle; a brother, Bill Steen; two sisters, Faye Jacks and Rea Dubuisson; one grandchild, David Andrew Gillis; and one great-grandchild, Thomas Mitchell Griffis.

Survivors include her husband, Jack T. Gillis of Vicksburg; three sons, David Gillis, Mike Gillis and Chris Gillis, all of Vicksburg; two brothers, Leo Steen of Vicksburg and Gene Steen of Lorman; two sisters, Dorothy Stalling of Baton Rouge and Jane Kennedy of Boswell, Pa.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Burch officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Gillis, Jonathon Ettinger, Rusty Tucker, Joey Gillis, Jamie Gillis, Mark Steen, Bill Stallings and Andrew Chambliss.
