Kathleen Davis Nye

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — Kathleen Davis Nye, formerly of Vicksburg, died Monday, June 11, 2012. She was 93.
Mrs. Nye was born Dec. 19, 1918, in Mystic, Iowa, to James Edward Davis and Kitty Fern Hildebrand Davis. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines in 1937 and with honors in 1943 from the University of Iowa, where she served as president of Delta Delta Delta sorority and Mortar Board honorary. She served as traveling secretary for Delta Delta Delta from 1943 until 1945, collegiate vice president from 1964 until 1968 and national fraternity president from 1968 until 1972.
She served on school boards and with the Air Force Wives Club and American Field Service.
With her husband, she retired to Vicksburg where she lived for 35 years. She served as president of the Council of Garden Clubs, the Engineers Auxiliary and the Women of First Presbyterian Church. She was chairman of the Vicksburg 1984 World’s Fair Committee and a hostess for the Miss Mississippi Pageant for 20 years.
She and her husband moved to California in 2000.
Mrs. Nye was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Johnson Allen Nye Jr.; and a son, Kerry Nye.
She is survived by a daughter, Meredith Moran of Saratoga, Calif.; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service was held July 15 at Paradise Valley Estates in Fairfield, Calif.
