UTICA — Bernice Washington Hurens died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at River Region Medical Center. She was 99.

Mrs. Hurens attended school in Claiborne County and was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons; and her parents, John Washington and Mandy Chase.

Survivors include two sons, Ernest Hurens of Milwaukee and Walter Hurens of Utica; four daughters, Bernice Daniels of McComb, Georgia Newman of Monroe, Eunice Hurens of Chicago and Sarah Hurens of Utica; a sister, Rosie Lee Chase of Jackson; a brother, Jimmy Chase of Roselle, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Second Union M.B. Church with the Rev. Michael Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Second Union Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday at Westhaven Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the service.

Pallbearers will be Daryl Daniels, St. Clair Weeks, Janis Newman, Kenneth Smith, D.J. Daniels and Earnest Hurens Jr.
