It might take until next summer before the 18th hole at Clear Creek golf course is completely repaired after the course was vandalized Saturday.

Phillip Johnson and his passenger, Austin Smith, were arrested and charged with felony malicious mischief.

The two will have a court appearance Monday, said Warren County prosecutor Richard Johnson.

Clear Creek pro Kent Smith said the damage was mostly confined to the 18th hole.

“They hit the tee box on No. 17, but that can be fixed pretty easily,” Smith said. “They chewed up No. 18 pretty good.”

Large tire tracks ran through the 18th’s fairway and the green was heavily damaged. Cost estimates put the repair at almost $10,000.

“That includes getting the sod to eventually redo the green,” Smith said. “But it’s a long process. We were able to bring in sand and fill in the damage done by the tire tracks over the fairway.”

Pins will be moved to areas on the green that escaped damage and sand will be used to fill in the damaged spots. Golfers will be able to play 18 holes at the county-owned course.

“It’s just a big pain in the butt,” Smith said of the whole incident. “It’s going to take until the summer before the hole is completely healed up.”
