Bernard Lee Riggs

WEBB CITY, Mo. — Bernard Lee Riggs passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at his home in Webb City, Mo., at the age of 90.

Mr. Riggs was born May 11, 1922, in Joplin, Mo. He grew up in Webb City and graduated from Webb City High School in 1941. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment and 2nd Marine Division. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Company, the Society of Professional Engineer Technicians, Brown and Root Construction and Bechtel Corporation, where he retired in 1986. He lived in Vicksburg from 1979 until 1998, and then moved back to Webb City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Riggs; three brothers; two sisters; and his wife, Alice Marie Riggs.

He is survived by a son, Jeffrey Riggs of Vicksburg and his wife, Sherry Riggs; one daughter, Janice Boswell of Boston, Mass.; six grandchildren, Stephanie Frost of Amarillo, Texas, Jeremiah Riggs of Vicksburg, Ashlie Kilpatrick of Ocean Springs, Kayla Riggs of Vicksburg, Jackie Warriner of Jacksonville, Fla., and Corey Gillian of St. Clair, Mo.; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home of Webb City is handling the arrangements.

Bernie will be missed by his family and friends.
