Flemmie Penley of Vicksburg died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at River Region Medical Center. She was 78.
She was Born and reared in San Antonio, Texas, and lived a number of years in Odessa, Texas, before moving to the Eagle Lake community where she and her husband owned and operated Penley’s Grocery.
She was employed as the manager of the Children’s Day Care at Woodlawn Baptist Church for more than 20 years, and was a member of Eagle Lake United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett C. and Clara Petraconas Popham, and her son, Robert “Sonny” Penley Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Robert “Sonny” Penley Sr. of Vicksburg; a son, William “Rusty” Penley and his wife, Tracey, of Vicksburg; and her grandson, William “Jake” Penley of Starkville.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Barbara Hite officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.
Pallbearers will be Jack Branning, Richard Hite, Ken Berry, David Holcomb, Michael McNair and Gerald Gelson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Mahan, Michael Mahan, John Rowe, Charles Watson, Dr. Paul Pierce III, Dr. Paul Pierce IV and the staff of the CVR Unit at River Region Medical Center.
