Terry Winschel, right, hugs Bette Graham, a former park guide, at his surprise retirement party at Pemberton’s Headquarters Friday. Winschel, one of the most senior historians in the National Park Service and sexton of the National Cemetery, is retiring after serving more than 35 years with the park. Winschel and his wife, Therese, said he plans to devote more of his time to finish writing two historically based books.
