Vicksburg National Military Park employee Bendel White, above, uses a blow torch to clean and wax the bronze eagle atop the 100-foot-tall Wisconsin Monument at the park Wednesday. Superintendent Mike Madell said the eagle was last waxed in the late 1950s or 1960s, and it was cleaned up this week because the park service had rented the bucket lift for condition assessments and, “We decided to get our money’s worth.” The monument is on Union Avenue.
