Kimberly “Kimmy” Danielle Melton died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 18.
Kimmy was born in Vicksburg on May 3, 1994, and, at the time of her death, was a senior at Warren Central High School. She aspired to be an engineer and dreamed of working for NASA after her college graduation.
Kimmy was active in many activities in Vicksburg including her school, church, theater and her beloved Robotics team. She was a member of Warren Central’s Total Sound and was a cheerleader. She was an enthusiastic member of the FRC Team No. 456 Siege Robotics, volunteering and participating with her team on many occasions. Kimmy was a former member of GymSouth.
She was active in the Vicksburg Theatre Guild and was a can-can dancer for “Gold in the Hills” melodrama.
Kimmy never met a stranger and her loving and caring attitude for others was her most admirable trait. She lived a wonderful, vibrant, caring and carefree life dedicated to the family and others. Kimmy seemed to have an endless supply of hugs from her heart and caring spirit for everyone she met.
She was a member of Delay Baptist Church in Oxford and attended Bowmar Baptist Church in Vicksburg.
She is survived by her parents, Eddie Jr. and Amy Vaughn Melton of Vicksburg; a sister, Megan Young (Hunter) of Paris, Miss.; paternal grandparents, Riley and Barbara Melton of Paris; maternal grandparents, Harry and Sue Vaughn of Abbeville, Miss.; and her great-grandmother, Helena Brewer of Oxford.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today, Sept. 19, 2012, at Bowmar Baptist Church with Brian Pursley and Pastor Terry White officiating. Interment will be at 4 today at the Paris Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Keel officiating. Visitation was at Riles Funeral Home from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Pallbearers were Cory Schweitzer, Will Gurtowski, Alex Walker, Cameron Furey, Clint Fuller, Jacob Kitchens, Jordon Stong and Will Ballard.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the FRC Team No. 456 Siege Robotics.
