Dionne announces candidacy to Election Commission post

Sara Carlson Dionne has announced her candidacy for Warren County Election Commission in District 4.

Dionne, 56, a poll worker in the district, is challenging on the Nov. 6 general election ballot incumbent commissioner John Rundell.

Dionne has managed the Goodrum precinct for 20 years. Her volunteer work includes being a money mentor for Warren County Extension Service, financial educator through the United Way of West Central Mississippi, volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and coordinating an evacuee shelter at the Vicksburg Convention Center after Hurricane Katrina. She also has directed dinner theater at Hawkins United Methodist Church, played Lizzie in “Gold in the Hills,” chaired the administrative board at Redbone United Methodist Church, taught Bible study and played her harp for shut-ins.

A Warren Central High School graduate, Dionne received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati in facilities planning and interior design. She worked in corporate facilities planning in North Carolina and New York, where she redesigned the corporate headquarters of Revlon Inc., before returning to Vicksburg.

The commission enrolls voters, assigns polling places, certifies non-party candidates, conducts all general and special elections and certifies results to the Secretary of State’s Office. Members of the panel are elected every four years during the presidential election cycle.
