Ethel Myrle McClendon Hoxie

PORT GIBSON — Ethel “Myrle” McClendon Hoxie died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at Claiborne County Senior Care. She was 96.

Mrs. Hoxie was born Oct. 28, 1915, in Ovett, Miss., and lived in Jackson before attending Mississippi A&M College.

She worked as an office manager for Mississippi Power & Light Co. and later helped her husband farm in Port Gibson.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, O.A. “Austin” Hoxie; two brothers, John McClendon Jr. and W.L. McClendon; and two sisters.

Mrs. Hoxie is survived by one son, William “Bill” Hoxie; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Visitation will be at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg from noon Friday until the service.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
