A Vicksburg woman accused of defrauding an active-duty service member out of $1,500 was freed on $2,500 bail after her arrest Tuesday, police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

Elizabeth Mitchell, 28, 111 St. Patrick St., was charged at 10 a.m. Tuesday with felony false pretense.

Stewart said the woman is accused of accepting a $1,500 check from the victim who thought he was placing a deposit on a house on Bowmar Avenue, Stewart said.

The check was written March 12, but was not discovered until the victim returned from deployment and realized that she was not the owner of the house.

Stewart said he expects more arrests.
