Ida M. Odems

Services for Ida M. Odems will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Poplar Grove Independent Methodist Church with Pastor James O. Bowman Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home and Saturday at the church from noon until the service.

Mrs. Odems died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at River Region Medical Center. She was 59.

She was born Feb. 1, 1953, in Edwards. She graduated from Hinds Agricultural High School and Utica Junior College and attended Alcorn State University. She retired from the Hinds County Welfare Department in Bolton.

She was a longtime member of New Poplar Independent Methodist Church, where she served as assistant secretary and on the Trustee Board.

Mrs. Odems was preceded in death by her parents, P.W. and Edna Morrow; a son, Nicholas Odems; two brothers, George Upson and Walter Morrow; one sister, Alma Morrow Kinnard; and aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Major Odems Sr. of Edwards; a son, Katlin Demond Odems of Hattiesburg; a stepson, Robert Major Odems Jr. of Dallas; three stepdaughters, Deroxsett Odems of Biloxi and Twanda Briggs and Cora Carter, both of Dallas; four sisters, Margaret A. Jamison of Inglewood, Calif., Margaret J. Lemon of Opelousas, La., Rosie M. Noel of Edwards and Esther Cole of Utica; two brothers, Larry D. Morrow of Raymond and Johnny Morrow of Vicksburg; two cousins reared as her brothers, Bobby Clark of Byram and Ronnie Clark of Edwards; six stepgrandchildren; and aunts, an uncle, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
