EDWARDS — Margaret “ Peg” Nelson, 91, loving wife of 65 years, mother of four, grandmother of 11, great-grandmother of 15 and daughter of Raymond M. and Ethel Crawford Hackler of Edwards passed away at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at her home on Canada Cross Road in Edwards surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Peg was a 1939 Utica High School graduate, a 1941 graduate of Hinds Community College and a Belhaven College student. She left for Charlotte, N.C. and then New York City where she studied and taught ballroom dancing with Arthur Murray Studios. When she transferred to the studio in Tampa, Fla. she met and married Richard “Dick” Nelson and began her incredible adventures and love story. They travelled extensively through 50 states and 19 foreign countries. Their daughters Donna and Linda were born in Tokyo. Their son Rick was born in Boston and youngest son Steve was born in Paris, France. Upon Dick’s military retirement they started a successful real estate company in Severna Park, Md. where they lived until moving back to Mississippi in 1985.

Throughout her life she shared her love of music in so many ways. She had piano and ballroom dance students of all ages. She sang in choirs and variety shows. Most will remember her sitting at a piano in church or entertaining us all with her Southern charm. Her fun-loving nature and positive attitude flowed into the lives of all around her. That positive attitude will always be remembered in her response to our question “How are you?” She always answered “I’m fine” and smiled.
