A Vicksburg man is dead from a gunshot wound, another is in jail and a third is being sought.

The body of Mardy Eugene Blackmore, 28, a resident of Vanguard Apartments at 1606 Lake Hill Drive, was found outside a building in the complex at 6:41 Sunday morning, said Vicksburg police Chief Walter Armstrong.

A neighbor, Christopher Glen Polk, 32, 435 Lake Hill Drive, Apt. 14, was arrested Sunday morning along with two other people, who later were released without being charged, said Lt. Sandra Williams.

“Investigators believe Blackmore was shot inside Polk’s apartment and his body was discarded in plain view behind the building where Polk lives,” Armstrong said. “No motive has been determined, and the weapon used has not been recovered.”

Polk was due in Vicksburg Municipal Court this morning to be charged officially with murder in Blackmore’s death. Polk, who also is accused of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, was in the Warren County Jail today.

A warrant was issued late Sunday for a second suspect who also is a neighbor. The search for Tamares “Binky” Dillon, 32, 410 Lake Hill Drive Apt. 15, continued this morning, Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

No apartment number was given for the victim.

Blackmore’s body was found by an apartment resident who called police. Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said Blackmore died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police said Blackmore lived at the apartments with his fiancee, Jennifer Cain, and was a regular visitor to Polk’s apartment.

Cain told police Blackmore left their apartment about 9:30 p.m. for Polk’s apartment and never returned.

Blackmore’s sister, Antoinette Blackmore, said her brother was a roofer and had two sons, Mardy Jr., 11, in Kosciusko, and Kenneth, 1 month, in Vicksburg.

She said he liked to party and be with friends.

She said their family moved to Vicksburg from Cincinnati in 1987, when Blackmore was 3. She said he moved back to Cincinnati in 2005 and returned to Vicksburg in December 2011.

Armstrong said investigators do not know when Blackmore was shot, adding police did not receive any calls about shots being fired from the area of the apartments Saturday night.

Armstrong said anyone with information about Dillon’s whereabouts can call Crimestoppers at 601-355-TIPS or the Vicksburg Police Department at 601-636-2511.
