A Vicksburg woman accused of spitting on a police officer was held without bail Saturday.

Lawanda Brown, whose age was not available, 114 Alcorn Drive, was arrested at 7 p.m. Friday and charged with simple assault of a police officer, Vicksburg police Lt. Sandra Williams said.

Brown is accused of spitting in the face of an officer who was responding to a disturbance in the 100 block of Alcorn Drive, Williams said.

Brown was being held Saturday in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility awaiting her an initial appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court.
