Utica man jailed in Vicksburg for shooting in city in July

A Utica man accused of shooting a Vicksburg man in the head in July was held without bail this morning.

Marquise Eastman, 21, 1694 Hickstown Road, was arrested at 2 a.m. today by Hinds County deputies on a warrant for aggravated assault and returned to Vicksburg to face charges, police Capt. Bobby Stewart said.

Eastman is accused of shooting Marquis Bland, 34, 112 Green Hill Drive, in the forehead with a small caliber pistol at about 3:18 a.m. July 16, Stewart said.

Bland and Eastman were arguing at Bland’s girlfriend’s home in the 1900 block of Olive Street when the shooting occurred, Stewart said.

Bland was taken to River Region Medical Center and transferred to University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

Eastman was returned to Vicksburg and was held without bail this morning in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility awaiting his initial court appearance.
