So. Panola wins 10th state title

In an imperfect game, South Panola scored a perfect 10.
The Tigers turned three fumbles by Brandon into 17 points and won their 10th state championship Friday night, 31-23, in the MHSAA Class 6A championship game in Jackson.
Darrell Henderson rushed for 214 yards and three touchdowns for South Panola (13-2), which won its eighth state title since 2003.
Brandon (12-3) led by 10 points in the second quarter, but South Panola scored and recovered a fumble on the ensuing possession to set up another quick touchdown and take the lead for good. Another fumble on a punt late in the fourth quarter set up a 22-yard TD run by Henderson that gave South Panola a 31-23 lead.
In Friday’s other championship games:
• Tevin Moore scored on a 19-yard run with 2:11 remaining in the fourth quarter to lead Stringer (13-2) past French Camp, 20-17, for its first Class 1A championship since 1992 and fourth in school history.
Moore also scored on a 51-yard run in the third quarter and finished with a game-high 222 rushing yards on 29 carries.
• Bassfield completed an undefeated season by routing Eupora 35-0 for the Class 2A title.
Bassfield (15-0) finished with 440 rushing yards, jumped out to a 21-point lead in the first quarter, and had three players rush for more than 100 yards apiece. Eupora finished with 46 yards of total offense and two first downs.
