CARR CENTRAL WORK BEGINS

Mauricio Ibarra, construction worker for Central Texas Lath and Plaster, begins mortaring the windows at Carr Central Thursday. Ibarra also is working on plastering the walls of the Aeolian apartment complex at Cherry and Clay streets, to be converted to rentals for seniors. Carr Central, vacant since 1979, is to be remodeled into Village Oaks, a 72-unit housing complex for low and moderate-income renters. Developer Jeremy Mears has said work on both buildings should take about a year. Both the $8 million renovation at the Aeolian and the $14 million makeover at Carr are financed by federal housing tax credits.
