Bennie Poates died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at the G. V. “Sonny” Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson. He was 76.
Mr. Poates was a native of Jackson and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He also served as a teaching assistant in Vicksburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister, Mae Lee Mance.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Poates; five sons, Jeffery Poates of Floyds Knobs, Ind., Avery Poates of Corona, Calif., Kirk Poates of Ontario, Calif., Cornelius Snow III, of Rayford, N.C., and Charles Snow of Vicksburg; four daughters, Regeina Poates-Hickman of Riverside, Calif., Cassandra Lynch of Corona, Calif., and Charlene Lewis and Brenda Hill, both of Vicksburg; and a lifelong friend, Boyd McNeil, of Vicksburg.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Robbins Funeral Home with the Rev. Jessie Brown officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.
