United Way of West Central Mississippi is getting ready to spread caring and get into action.
The organization’s annual Day of Caring is set for Thursday and its Week of Action will be held June 15-20, United Way director of Resource Development Heidi Jennings Burrell told Port City Kiwanis on Thursday
“It should bring in over 100 volunteers, and that’s a fantastic testimony to the community and how we can live united,” she said.
Day of Caring, the United Way’s annual volunteer event, will begin at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, April 24 at Vicksburg Mall on Pemberton Square Boulevard. From there, volunteers will perform work for the chapter’s partnering agencies. In 2013, 155 volunteers offered services estimated at over $150,000 to the agencies, United Way officials have said.
“They get to see the faces and work with the people we help serve,” Burrell said.
The Week of Action will focus on making repairs to homes around the community in a partnership with Service Over Self, a Christian-based youth
organization serving, Burrell said.
“We are still looking for volunteers,” she said.
In 2013, United Way held a Day of Action and while working in teams volunteers were able to make and package 20,000 meals.
