A Warren County woman accused of stabbing a man to death in 2013 was held without bail this morning awaiting arraignment in circuit court.
Latoya Nicole Brisco, 27, 4941 Mississippi 27, was arrested at about 10 p.m. Tuesday at a relative’s home on a capias warrant from the District Attorney’s Office, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
If convicted, Brisco faces life in prison.
It was unclear if she has an attorney.
In July, a Warren County grand jury issued a secret indictment charging Brisco with murder in the stabbing death of Carl Whitaker on Nov. 18.
Arraignment is tentatively set for today but might be delayed because Circuit Judge M. James Chaney is presiding over a civil trial this week.
Just after 8 p.m. Nov. 18, a Warren County E-911 dispatcher received multiple calls reporting a stabbing at 114 Freedom Lane in the China Grove community, Pace said.
When paramedics arrived, they found Whitaker on the mobile home floor suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was not breathing and had no pulse, Pace said.
“He was pronounced dead at the scene of stab wounds,” Pace said.
Before the stabbing several people had been drinking and playing cards at the residence, Pace said.
Initially, no one was charged in the killing.
“This case remained under investigation. The facts of the case were presented to the most recent grand jury,” Pace said.
Brisco was held without bail this morning in the Warren County Jail.
