A Brandon woman who shot her estranged husband four times at his home in Bovina as they were going through a divorce pleaded guilty Friday.
Mary Lou Neely, 59, of Brandon pleaded guilty to attempted murder Friday before Circuit Judge M. James Chaney.
Chaney set sentencing for Oct.20.
Neely, who appeared in court in a wheelchair, attempted to kill her estranged husband Billy Dale Neely on Dec. 2, 2013, at his home at 103 Deer Circle, District Attorney Ricky Smith said.
Deer Circle is a cul-de-sac in the Silver Creek subdivision about five miles from the intersection of U.S. 80 and Mississippi 27.
“There was an ongoing divorce case between the two at the time,” Smith said.
Mary Lou Neely, who is represented by Wren Way, made no statements to the court other than to answer typical yes or no questions asked during plea proceedings.
At about 12:45 p.m. Dec. 2, Mary Lou Neely pulled into Billy Neely’s home and fired five times with a revolver as he was changing the oil in his vehicle, Smith said. Four of the five shots struck Billy Neely.
“He had significant injuries for which he spent a significant amount of time in hospitals and rehab facilities,” Smith said.
The shooting caused Billy Neely to loose movement in one of his arms and damaged several organs, Smith said.
The shooting was captured on surveillance video, Smith said. Billy Neely had installed the security system because he was afraid of his wife, Smith said.
A Vicksburg Fire Department ambulance took Billy Neely to an open area of the neighborhood where a helicopter picked him up and took him to University of Mississippi Medical Center.
