Johnnie Smith Jr., of Bogue Chitto, is airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center Saturday afternoon on the westbound lane of Interstate 20 after a motorcycle wreck in which his wife, Geri Ann Smith, 63, was killed.

A woman was killed and a man was injured when the motorcycle they were riding crashed on Interstate 20 Saturday afternoon.
At about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, a westbound Harley Davidson motorcycle lost control near the U.S. 61 North exit, killing Geri Ann Smith, 63, of Bogue Chitto, a passenger and injuring the driver, her husband Johnnie Smith Jr., Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol trooper Eric Henry said.
“The rear tire blew out causing the driver to lose control of the motorcycle. The motorcycle went off the right shoulder of the roadway striking the ditch ejecting both passengers,” Henry said.
Geri Smith was pronounced dead at 2:06 p.m., Warren County Deputy Corner Kelda Bailess said.
Johhnie Smith was taken by helicopter to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson where he was being treated Saturday night.
The fatal crash is the second reported in Warren County this year. Additionally two fatal wrecks have been reported in the Vicksburg city limits, including a fiery crash into Vicksburg Police Department that killed 59-year-old Carl James and displaced police offices for weeks.
