Driving rain and hail pelted Warren County Monday afternoon as severe storms swept through southwest Mississippi. Winds of up to 27 mph have been reported and around 2,000 county residents lost power due to the storm as 1.10 inches of rain fell in less than an hour.

“We had some nickel and dime sized hail reported in town. We had golf ball-sized hail near Vicksburg-Warren School District and Martin Luther King Boulevard,” Warren County Emergency Management Director John Elfer said. “We had some pretty good wind gusts. The worst of it seemed to go north of us.”

A downed tree was reported in the Oak Ridge Road area and a limb reportedly fell on a house on Sea Island Drive near Eagle Lake, but no damage to the house was reported. Entergy representative Tammy Rankin said about 1,100 residents in the Fisher Ferry area are without power with the largest number (1, 062) in the Judson Circle area. An Entergy map shows outages on Fisher Ferry, Jeff Davis, Fonsylvania, Naylor and Goodum roads.
