A Warren County woman who police say was shot while breaking into an 82-year-old Korean War veteran’s home has been released from a hospital and was held in the Warren County Jail this morning.
Betty Robertson, 42, 523 Hall Road, was arrested upon her release from University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson and charged with home invasion, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.
Robertson was shot in the leg while breaking into the home of Roosevelt Wilson on Oct. 29 in the 3100 block of Wisconsin Avenue, police have said. Wilson served in the Korean War and retired after 30 years of service in the maintenance department at Vicksburg National Military Park.
Robertson’s boyfriend, Carl Marshall, 55, 1864 Natchez Ave., was arrested and charged with home invasion at a gas station at Indiana Avenue and Interstate 20 after he called 911 to report Robertson had been shot.
The home invasion came two days after an intruder tied up a mother and child at a home on Roseland Drive before the child escaped, retrieved a gun and got into a shootout with the burglar.
The victims in that home invasion described the intruder as a 6-foot black man wearing black pants and a gray sweatshirt, police have said.
Anyone with information about the Roseland home invasion is encouraged to call VPD at 601-636-2511 or Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8744. Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of a felony suspect. Callers remain anonymous and do not have to testify in court.
