VHS soccer, PCA hoops notch wins

Dalexas Smith and Haleigh Erwin each had a goal and an assist Friday night as Vicksburg High beat Raymond 3-2 in girls soccer.

Deserae Dunbar also scored a goal for the Missy Gators (1-1), who led 2-1 at halftime and never trailed. Tiye Strong had an assist.

Vicksburg will take on Gautier today at 2:45 p.m. and Bay High at 5:15 in the Laurel Showcase tournament.

Josh Daffron had 16 points and 12 rebounds, Eric Jackson finished with 21 points and seven rebounds, and Porters Chapel Academy used a fast start to beat Park Place 73-63 Friday night for its first win of the season.

Porters Chapel (1-3) started the game with a full court press and built a 14-point lead by the end of the first quarter. It led 49-25 at halftime, and maintained a comfortable advantage throughout the second half. The Eagles finished the game with 16 steals as a team.

Javontae Frye had 15 points and six steals, while Zac Morgan had seven points and four steals, and Patrick Minor scored eight points.

PCA will return to action Tuesday night on the road at Greenville Christian.
