Warren Central takes two at Laurel soccer tournament

Max Wamsley had a goal and three assists Saturday, and Braylen Greer and Nick Wright scored two goals apiece to lead Warren Central to a pair of victories at the Laurel Showcase tournament.

Greer, Wright and Wamsley all scored a goal in the Vikings’ first game, a 3-0 shutout of George County. Wamsley had two assists and Nathan Madsen had one. Brian McHan stopped all three shots he faced in goal.

In the second game, Warren Central got goals from Wright, Greer and Hunt Holdiness to beat West Lauderdale 3-1.

Wamsley had an assist for WC (3-0-1), whose defense only allowed two shots.

Warren Central will return to action Tuesday night when it hosts Terry beginning at 5 p.m.

Missy Gators win one, tie one

Mikayla Banks had a hat trick, scoring all three of Vicksburg High’s goals as it beat Bay High 3-0 Saturday at the Laurel Showcase tournament.

Brittney Palmer had two assists and Amy Dixon had one. Virgie Demby stopped 11 shots for a hard-earned shutout in goal.

In their other game, the Missy Gators played to a 1-1 draw with Gautier.

Banks scored Vicksburg’s only goal, off an assist from Leiana Thornell. Demby made 15 saves.

Vicksburg will host McLaurin Tuesday night at 5:30.
