With five freshmen and four sophomores on the roster, it’s no secret that one of Warren Central’s goals this season is to build for the future.

It got a pretty good glimpse of it on Monday.

Freshman T.T. Sims had a triple-double with 31 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals as the Lady Vikes mauled Crystal Springs 70-19 in a Monday matinee.

It was the best performance in what’s already shaping up as a breakout season. Sims, a 5-foot-4 point guard, has scored in double figures in six of WC’s eight games.

“She’s been struggling with some illness, so she hasn’t been feeling her best or playing her best the last couple of games. I thought today was a good day to get her confidence up,” WC coach Jackie Glass said. “She’s part of what I call my Future Fab Five, because I moved up five freshman that I’m hoping can get some playing time and develop.”

Sims is part of a talented freshman class that went undefeated and won the 2014 Little Six Conference championship. Five players from that group are on the varsity this season and are already contributing.

Besides Sims’ big game, fellow freshmen Dee Dee Caldwell and Coco Fultz combined for 15 points on Monday. Fultz also had six rebounds.

“The seniors have shown leadership to the freshmen to get us into the game and get our motivation going. If it wasn’t for them, I don’t know if we could do it. Moving up is a big challenge but I’m down with that,” Sims said.

Senior Shae Bracey added eight points, nine rebounds and five steals for Warren Central (4-4). The Lady Vikes used an aggressive defense to generate 31 steals. They allowed eight points in the second quarter, and not more than four in any other period.

WC opened up a 35-12 lead at halftime and never led by less than 10 points after the first quarter.

“I thought we could have done even more. We missed some easy opportunities,” Glass said. “It’s not about embarrassing the other team, it’s about executing for the next game and because I know we have some tougher, bigger teams coming up I want them to execute and follow the game plan, and get all the steals that we missed.”

Mario Doyle hit four 3-pointers, went 10-for-11 from the foul line and finished with a game-high 32 points as Warren Central (4-3) beat Crystal Springs to pull above .500.

Warren Central hit 17 of 21 free throws in the game, and was 6-for-7 in the fourth quarter.

Shunterrance Walton added 11 points for the Vikings, Tristan Lowry scored six and Larry Ferguson had five. Miguel Powell led Crystal Springs with 13 points.

The Vikings will face Brandon Saturday at 10 a.m. at Clinton High School.
