Warren Central romps over Raymond

Warren Central has thrived thus far against a rugged schedule, so on Tuesday night it enjoyed a bit of a break.
Sean Dixon had a hat trick and eight different players scored a goal as the Vikings blasted Raymond 11-0 to win for the fifth time in six games.
Hunt Holdiness added two goals, Nick Wright had a goal and four assists, and Braylen Greer had a goal and two assists for the Vikings (8-2-2), who didn’t allow a shot against the winless Rangers (0-4).
Warren Central went 2-1 against Brandon, Sacred Heart and Northwest Rankin at The Show tournament last weekend, and has another tough road game Friday at Pearl. WC coach Greg Head said that made Tuesday’s breather a welcome sight on the schedule.
“We knew they were going to be a little bit weaker, but after three hard games last weekend, we needed a break,” Head said. “It was good to go back and work on some fundamentals, like our passing. We’ve got another tough game this Friday.”
The Vikings jumped out to a 5-0 lead at halftime against Raymond and cleared the bench in the second half. Even goal keeper Brian McHan, who was moved to the field as the game got out of hand, scored a goal.
Keione Mellon and Trace Keyes also found the net.
Mellon is one of only three seniors on the Vikings’ roster. Head said the team’s early success with a core of strong young players was a good development as it heads toward the holiday break. After Friday’s game at Pearl, the Vikings have a division game at Greenville on Dec. 20 and then two weeks off.
“We’re real happy, because we only have one senior on the field. We’ve got a lot of young players, and they’re stepping up. We’ve got three or four ninth-graders and a couple of 10th-graders starting for us,” Head said. “Everybody’s playing real well together. Things are coming together for us.”

Warren Central (4-7) got goals from five different players and outshot Raymond 20-2 in a rout at Viking Stadium.
Jessica Hurley, Kylee Burke, Laney Smith and Drew Barnes each scored a goal in the first half as the Lady Vikes stormed to a 4-0 lead. Lauren Summerlin added another in the second half off an assist from Macy Claire Joseph to put the finishing touches on the win.
One of Raymond’s two shots came on a penalty kick that sailed high midway through the first half.

Mikayla Banks scored three goals for her fourth hat trick of the season, and the Vicksburg Missy Gators (5-1, 2-0 Division 4-5A) rolled to a win over Ridgeland in their division opener.
Grace Bufkin and Amy Dixon assisted Banks’ goals in the first half, and Brittney Palmer had an assist on the clincher in the second half.
Virgie Demby made 12 saves in goal for Vicksburg, which will host Cathedral Friday at 5:30 p.m.
