REDWOOD — Two burglars were on the lam Friday after breaking into a home Thursday in Redwood and fleeing when they found a teenager alone inside.
Two black men who were between 5’10” and 6 feet broke into a home in the 3200 block of Redwood Road — about 3 miles east of Redwood Elementary School — at about noon Thursday, Sheriff Martin Pace said.
One of the men appeared to have been armed with a screwdriver or crowbar, he said.
The men fled when they noticed 14-year-old Tyler Kellum inside, his mother Kristi Selby said. Tyler is also about 6 feet tall.
“They must have not realized he’s 14,” Selby said.
Tyler was in a separate room of the house and was alerted to the men’s presence because of the family dog, Selby said.
“They busted in the back door, and the dog started barking,” Selby said.
Tyler was not injured, but seemed shaken up when he called his mother who was in the dressing room of one of the shops at the Outlets at Vicksburg, she said.
“I’m glad that he’s fine,” Selby said.
Because Selby was shopping, there were no vehicles parked in the driveway of the home when the burglars arrived.
“They must have thought no one was home,” Selby said.
The burglars were last seen running away from the home, Pace said.
Multiple sheriff’s deputies and Warren County Constable Glen McKay patrolled the area around the home Thursday seeking the burglars, but no arrests had been made as of Friday morning, Pace said.
Anyone with information about the burglars is encouraged to call Warren County Sheriff’s Office at 601-636-1761 or Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477. Crime stoppers will pay a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of a felony suspect. Callers remain anonymous and do not have to testify in court.
