Vicksburg’s shooting woes continued, but at least its brief two-game losing streak came to an end.
Keiyana Gaskin scored a game-high 17 points, including a clinching breakaway layup with 33 seconds left, as the Missy Gators edged Pelahatchie 43-39 Saturday in a consolation game at the Northwest Rankin Holiday Tournament.
The Missy Gators won despite shooting 28.4 percent from the field and going 5-for-20 from the foul line. They’re shooting 32 percent from the field and 44 percent at the line for the season, yet have a 9-4 record.
Vicksburg will play Hillcrest Christian Monday at 11 a.m. in another consolation game at Northwest Rankin.
“If we hit our free throws, it wouldn’t have even been that close. But they did better. That was a good win,” Vicksburg coach Barbara Hartzog said.
Brittany Thompson led Pelahatchie (9-3) with 15 points.
Vicksburg’s Karry Callahan had her 10th double-double in 13 games this season, finishing with 11 points, 19 rebounds, five assists and six steals.
(B) Vicksburg 49, Clinton 48
Kirk Parker scored the last of his 13 points on a go-ahead layup with 10.2 seconds left, and Vicksburg rallied from a six-point deficit late in the fourth quarter to beat Clinton.
Khris Walker led the Gators with 17 points and K.J. Murphy added 10.
The Gators will play Terry Monday at 3:30 p.m. in their final game of the Northwest Rankin Holiday Tournament.
