Sacred Heart sweeps away St. Aloysius

The surge of momentum from St. Aloysius’ thrilling overtime win over Cathedral on Friday night lasted about one quarter on Saturday morning.

Sacred Heart opened up a double-digit halftime lead on the Flashes in the second quarter and went on to win 81-58 in the Red Carpet Classic at Vicksburg High School.

Harrison Hicks led Sacred Heart with 25 points and William Agnew added 16. The Crusaders led by four points heading into the second quarter, then outscored the Flashes 20-9 to take a 40-25 halftime lead. They weren’t threatened in the second half.

Drake Dorbeck finished with 12 points and nine rebounds for St. Al, which took the court about 13 hours after going to overtime against Cathedral on Friday night.

Tae Warnsley added 11 points for the Flashes, while Connor Smith and Josh Brown scored eight apiece.

(G) Sacred Heart 51, St. Aloysius 44

Grace Upshaw had 22 points and five steals for St. Aloysius, but Sacred Heart pulled away in the second half to win in the opening game of the Red Carpet Classic.

Hannah Burks led Sacred Heart with 17 points, Ellie Rosa scored 11 and mary Claire Whitehead had nine.

Michelle Howington finished with nine points for St. Al.

Sacred Heart was just 10-for-27 from the foul line, but St. Al only attempted eight free throws. The Lady Flashes made five.
