Zeke West Memorial bass tournament

The 7th Annual Zeke West Memorial Team Bass Tournament is scheduled for Feb. 28 at Lake Bruin State Park.

The fishing tournament, hosted by the Tallulah Bass Club, begins at 6:30 a.m. and continues until 3 p.m. The registration fee is $100 per boat, with an optional big bass entry fee of $10 per person. First place is guaranteed a $1,000 prize, and additional prizes will be paid for second through fifth places based on the number of entries.

VGSA registration open

Registration is open until Feb. 28 the Vicksburg Girls Softball Association’s spring season. There are fast-pitch leagues for girls ages 6-14, and an 18-and-under slow pitch league.

The registration fee is $60. To register online, visit vicksburggsa.com. Registration forms can also be picked up at Hobie’s or Just Duett Sports.

The league is also looking for sponsors. Team sponsorships are available for $200.

VWAA baseball registration open

Registration for the Vicksburg Warren Athletic Association’s 2015 baseball season will continue until Feb. 28. The league is for boys and girls ages 5-15, and the registration fee is $75.

Tryouts will be held at Halls Ferry Park on March 3 and 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. Players need to bring their own gloves.

Kathy Hester golf class

LPGA Class A member Kathy Hester is offering instructional classes for youth golfers on Saturdays at 11 a.m. at the Golf Center, located at the Outlets of Vicksburg. The classes will be followed by a 2 p.m. driving range tee time in Clinton, and cost $15 per session.

City hosting CPR class

The City of Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department will hold an American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED class on Feb. 28 at 8:30 a.m. at the Recreation Department office at 100 Army Navy Drive. This is a basic level class in which successful participants will receive a two-year certification. The cost is $85 and pre-registration is required. Run Thru History registration open

Registration is now open for the 36th annual Run Thru History, a 10K run, 5K race walk and 1-mile fun run through the Vicksburg Military Park. The race is scheduled for March 7 at 8:30 a.m.

The entry fees are $25 for the run and walk or $12 for the children’s fun run before March 2, and then $30 for the run and walk after that date. The entry fee includes a race T-shirt, refreshments and the race’s famous after party.

Lifeguard class offered at YMCA

The Vicksburg YMCA will hold an American Red Cross lifeguard training class beginning April 6. The two-week course will be held from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and will be taught by veteran American Red Cross instructors Susan and Bob Athow and Sylvia Gurtowski.

Interested candidates must complete a 300-yard swim and a strength and fitness challenge prior to class in order to qualify. Cost of the class is $100 for YMCA members and $115 for nonmembers.

Football free agent camp in Jackson

The Jackson Combine, a workout camp for aspiring professional football players, will be held March 14 at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson. Registration begins at 11 a.m. the day of the combine.

The combine is for collegiate seniors and recent college graduates who have exhausted their college eligibilty. Scouts from the NFL, Arena Football League and Canadian Football League will be in attendance.
