Alabama A&M holds off Alcorn

LORMAN (AP) — Ladarius Tabb had 24 points and nine rebounds to help Alabama A&M hold off Alcorn State 73-69 on Monday night.

Rakiya Battle scored 13 points and Tyler Davis had 11 for Alabama A&M (8-16, 7-7 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Nicholas West grabbed 13 rebounds as the Bulldogs held a 37-30 advantage on the glass.

Tabb had 10 points in the first half as Alabama A&M led by as many as 12 points.

LeAntwan Luckett paced Alcorn State (5-22, 4-11) with 22 points on 7-of-21 shooting. George Thomas and Marquis Vance scored 13 apiece, and Tyrel Hunt added 12. The Braves were held to 22-of-62 shooting (35.5 percent).

Vance also had nine rebounds.

A Luckett dunk gave Alcorn State its first lead of the second half at 61-60 with 4:41 remaining, but Alabama A&M regained the lead when West hit a pair of free throws and Justin Colvin buried a 3-pointer with 1:44 to go to make it 66-64.

Vance’s layup cut Alcorn’s deficit to 71-69 with seven seconds left. But Battle hit two free throws a second later to seal it.
